Summer Student Street Ambassador

Term: May 5, 2008- Aug 29, 2008
Full time – flexible hours, Mon - Fri
Salary: $10 per hour + 4% vacation and stat. holidays

The Osborne South Business Improvement Zone is a group of 80 businesses who have premises fronting on Osborne Street. We are one of the zones created by the City of Winnipeg. The area is approximately a 1 mile strip from the Osborne Street Underpass at Mulvey Avenue, to the St. Vital Bridge. The main objectives of the BIZ are to promote the physical enhancement and beautification of the street as a pleasant shopping area, and the marketing of the business area to potential and existing customers.

The Osborne South BIZ is seeking a summer student, post-secondary, who enjoys outdoor work for duties on and about Osborne St.

Duties:

• removing and/or painting out graffiti on Osborne Street buildings
• working on Streetscaping projects with local business owners
• providing a suitable business image to our customers and area residents
• be part of our Marketing committee
• weeding of landscaping beds grass cutting and trimming along boulevards
• pick up of litter/removal of posters
• providing communication between businesses along the street, and demonstrating the commitment of Osborne South businesses to street beautification
• organizing work parties with small groups of students

The successful candidate will be self motivated, able to work independently or with groups with minimal supervision, friendly, and returning to college/university/trade school in the future.

He or she will ideally be between 18 – 24 years of age and enjoy interacting with the public.Access to a vehicle and a valid full driver license would be an asset, but not required. We provide Workers Compensation coverage.
